Telekom Austria announced it will start offering a smart meter system with LTE connectivity for domestic customers. The company has developed a smart grid device together with partners Kaifa and ZTE. The new communication module supports both LTE/4G and GPRS/2G technologies. The "Oesterreich Zaehler" provides a high degree of flexibility in terms of data communications as the modules are completely interchangeable and easily adjusted to the corresponding technology. The system also meets sustainability requirements with lower smart meter energy consumption than conventional meters.
